Mikkeller Running Club (Tokyo)

We catch up with Hamilton of Mikkeler Running Club Tokyo and find out that running + beer = not a bad idea.

Read on to learn more about the Tokyo chapter of runners double majoring in running and day drinking (though not both at the same time).

Give us your elevator speech about Mikkeller Running Club!

Long story short, we run so we can drink beer. Of course, the main idea is to stay fit through running – but we also believe that beer is good for your body and soul. The original Mikkeller Running Club was founded by Danish brewer Mikkel Borg BjergsΓΈ and his beer drinking buddies so they wouldn’t get too fat. There are several chapters around the world and in Tokyo, we meet at the Mikkeller Bar in Shibuya for a run through Yoyogi Park. Our runs are usually in the mornings at 10AM on the first Saturday each month. Keeping an eye on our Facebook group is the best way to keep up with what’s going on.

Who should come out to the Mikkeller Running Club?

We have four pace groups from quite fast to very leisurely, so there is something for everyone. We are a pretty laid back bunch and just want to have fun staying healthy. If you’re ready to run then drink, you’re good to go!

How does Mikkeller Running Club stay involved in the running community in Japan?

We welcome runners of all levels. At the moment, we’re still focused on our monthly runs in Shibuya but we are looking forward to connecting and doing more with the running community in the future. Additionally, we’ve collaborated with designers to produce some cool running gear and spread the word about the MRC when we are at industry events serving beer.

What is Mikkeller Running Club looking forward to this summer?

Running more, and drinking more beer.
