about the ride

If you’re a cyclist, you’ve probably dreamt of cycling around Mt. Fuji – now here’s your chance! Brand new in 2019, the Tour de Nippon will be hosting the inaugural Mt. Fuji 360 on June 30, 2020. Join us and ride a counter-clockwise 120KM loop around the base of Japan’s most iconic symbol, Fuji-san!

With nearly 1,800 meters (5,700+ ft) of climbing, it’s a challenge that will make you appreciate the sense of accomplishment upon completion. Don’t forget, the Mt. Fuji 360 is supported by numerous aid stations packed with a wide range of locally-produced foods, support vehicles, and an original finisher’s souvenir (exact details TBA)! Perfect for those attempting their first Mt. Fuji loop, as well as those seeking a solid day out with fellow cyclists.

In just one day on your bike, you’ll witness most of Mt. Fuji’s most well-known sightseeing spots, including Aokigahara Forest, the Fuji Five Lakes, and Asagiri Plateau. Of course, it’s not all uphill – you’ll also enjoy an extra-long 15KM (about 9 miles) downhill segment #getaero. Best of all, you’ll see Mt. Fuji from a 360-degree perspective! Fuji-san will quite literally never leave your (left) side.

The course is not closed; cyclists will ride on public roads without road closures.

IMPORTANT
・This is not a race – there are no timing chips. No drafting, no peletons.
・Roads are not closed for this event. Fuji 360 is best for intermediate to advanced cyclists comfortable with sharing the roads.
・With a total ascent of 1,800 meters, the ride is no walk in the park. Be a responsible athlete – please consider whether you have the physical ability to complete the course in time.
・Participants may move about freely on the course as their pace dictates. However, participants should not be ahead of his/her group’s leading guide cyclist.

Our Recommendation
We recommend participants find lodging in or nearby Gotemba for Saturday night – the closer to the Mt. Fuji Jukuu no Mori, the better! While parking lots open at 0430, you do not need to arrive until after 0600 (no later than 0645, please!). All Samurai Sports registrants will ride in Group D, which starts at 0730. You may collect your event packet until 0715.

The event venue is not easily accessible without a vehicle – public transportation is primarily limited to areas near train stations and is serviced infrequently. You may opt to pack light, cycle to the event venue, and drop off personal belongings not necessary for the ride for no charge at the start/finish area (no valuables). Changing areas will also be available.

Please give yourself ample time to navigate yourself through parking, traffic, event packet collection, etc. on Sunday morning. Pets and non-cyclist friends are welcome at the event venue.
