About the Race

Race organizers KFC Triathlon Club are headed back into Nagano’s trail run haven with the 2nd Altra Shinshu Tenku Trail Race! Come out and play outdoors, run the trails, and relax in the crisp autumn climate!

Despite its name, the Shinshu Tenku Trail Race combines both trail and road – perfect for those seeking the best of both worlds. Run along the Hijiriyama Trail while enjoying superb views of the mountains, vineyards, and fall foliage. Start and finish at the Schoengarten Omi where you’ll be greeted by an authentic Swiss Alps alphorn upon your return, treated to a Japanese curry lunch, and rejuvenated at the onsen and rotenburo on-site (tentative)!

Chikuma is located just south of Nagano city and is known primarily for its production of knitted goods and apricot production.

Highlights
The best of both worlds! The Shinshu Tenku Trail Race course includes both trail and road (about 50% of either terrain) – with plenty of elevation to conquer.
Strike a pose! KFC Triathlon Club (the race organizers) provide several hundred race photos available for download – free of charge.
Free food! All finishers are treated to a meal of Japanese curry rice, apple pie, and apples.
・[PENDING FOR 2020] Post-race rejuvenation! Your race entry includes free entry to the onsen and rotenburo (outdoor onsen). Please note that unless covered, participants with tattoos may not be permitted to enter the onsen facilities.

20KM aid stations: Aid station(s) will be self-service; each athlete is entitled to a 500ml bottle of water or sports drink

20KM elevation profile: +1,123m (+3,684 ft)

Please note that the course map and advertised distance may not align perfectly. According to the race organizers, this is due to the fact that the area does not always ping well using GPS or GLONASS. Additionally, the course map calculates distance between several geographical coordinates that do not account for irregularities in the surface of the route nor changes in elevation relative to the idealized surface.

Should you find a discrepancy between the advertised distance and the map, you may reasonably expect to run a maximum of the distance advertised but may also find that the distance actually covered more closely resembles that of the course map provided.
