Marking a return to normalcy after two years of pandemic disruption, the Tokyo Marathon 2021 heralded a welcome start to new beginnings. As COVID-19 spread throughout the world, the race in 2020 was held for elite runners only. The following year, the race was postponed from the spring to the fall, before being cancelled entirely.
Thus, in true COVID-19 fashion, the 2021 Tokyo Marathon kicked off a year late in March 2022 with approximately 20,000 runners taking on the streets of Japan’s largest city. There will be no 2022 Tokyo Marathon; the Tokyo Marathon 2023 is scheduled to take place on March 5, 2023.
