about the ride

・2020, 2021 cancelled due to COVID

Join us for the 18th Annual Bicycle Ride in Tokyo event this April and welcome the first signs of spring with friends and family! “Mama-chari” bikes are welcome; rental bikes will also be available (advance reservations required; limited quantity).

2020 is a special year that brings the Olympics to Tokyo, so it only makes sense to view some of the spectacular sites that will host various events this coming summer. The Bicycle Ride in Tokyo always starts at Hibiya Park but to keep things exciting, the course changes every year!

This year, the first half of the cycling route will prominently feature the Toyosu area, a central hosting site for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Participants will ride along the bike lanes on the Kanni-dori Ave. and be treated to expansive views of Tokyo Bay. After circling Toyosu, take a break at an aid station before embarking on the second half of the course.

The latter part of the route takes participants through Tsukishima, Fukagawa, Monzen-Nakacho, Yanagibashi, and Ningyocho. Enjoy a leisurely ride through the “shita-machi” and peek at nostalgia-inducing scenes of days past from the Edo period. Altogether, participants will experience a memorable 30KM ride through the ever-changing landscapes of Tokyo ranging from urban sophistication to historical throwback.

The Bicycle Ride in Tokyo is a charity ride and a portion of entry fees are donated to the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Japan.

Please note that the course is not closed; cyclists will ride on public roads without road closures.
